Colored carbon fiber sheets are often treated as cosmetic materials only. In engineering reality, a properly designed layup can deliver controlled aesthetics while preserving structural-grade carbon fiber performance.
At iKabon, our colored carbon fiber sheets are not painted or surface-coated products. The color is introduced at the fabric layer, using either electroplated colored fiberglass (decorative surface fabric systems) or metallic-yarn woven carbon fabrics. For structural applications, these decorative surface layers are commonly combined with T300 or T700 carbon fiber cores (UD or woven), based on the load path and stiffness targets.
This hybrid approach helps engineers balance stiffness-to-weight, appearance, and machinability across UAV frames, RC racing chassis, automotive trims, and premium decorative components.
We offer three practical architectures. Selecting the right one depends on whether your priority is structural performance, edge appearance after CNC, or full-through color.
| Engineering Question | Technical Reality |
|---|---|
| Is it painted? | No. Color is woven into the fabric (electroplated glass or metallic yarn). |
| Scratch resistance? | Hybrid sheets reveal black carbon if deeply scratched. Full-color sheets maintain color. |
| CNC Edge look? | Hybrid = Carbon black edge. Full-Color = Striped color edge. |
For outdoor use (UAVs/Automotive), we recommend applying a UV-resistant clear coat. Raw epoxy resin can yellow over time under direct sunlight. We can apply this finish upon request.
Hybrid Sheets: Yes, deep scratches may reveal the black carbon core.
Full-Color Sheets: No, the color is consistent throughout the thickness.
Standard sheet thickness tolerance is ±0.1mm. For CNC machined features (holes/profiles), we follow ISO 2768-m or your specific drawing requirements (typically ±0.05mm).
Yes. We support low-volume and prototype orders with a typical lead time of 3–7 days.
